AI & Economics Forum 2025

The AI & Economics Forum 2025, co-organized by the Young Economists Society of Uzbekistan (YESU), Dialogue E, the School of Economics, and ID, brought together leading experts, scholars, and practitioners to explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence in economics, labor markets, industry, and education. The Forum served as a platform for deep discussions on how AI is reshaping economic systems, workforce dynamics, and learning environments, while connecting students and professionals with thought leaders driving innovation across research, policy, and industry.The Forum featured a distinguished lineup of speakers who brought diverse perspectives from academia, technology, and policy. Prof. Franz Hubert, Professor Emeritus at Humboldt University Berlin and a longtime contributor to Dialogue E, offered insights on the intersections of economics, policy, and international exchange. Vasiliy Burov, Chairman of WikiVote! and Co-founder of Information Culture, shared his expertise in digital economy, crowdsourcing technologies, and the broader societal impact of AI. Labor markets and regional economic perspectives were addressed by Vladimir Gimpelson, Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and IZA Research Fellow, whose research on post-socialist economies and global labor policy informs organizations such as the OECD, IMF, and World Bank.Industrial applications of AI were highlighted by Bakyt Kaldybaev, AI Engineer at Volkswagen Group IT Solutions, who demonstrated how AI is integrated into modern industrial processes. Bugra Caskurlu, Associate Dean at the School of Computing at New Uzbekistan University, presented research on algorithms, multi-agent systems, and computational social choice, emphasizing AI’s influence on economic decision-making. The role of AI in education and skills development was explored by Qobiljon Yunusov, Education Technology Consultant at the Asian Development Bank and founder of Uzbekistan’s first Bloomberg Education Lab, who shared insights from his extensive experience in edtech and digital transformation.By bringing together leading academics, industry professionals, and policy experts, the AI & Economics Forum 2025 provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of AI’s current and future impact on economic systems. It offered unique opportunities for students and young professionals to engage with experts, exchange ideas, and gain insights into emerging technologies and their applications in economics, education, and industry.

The session, titled “A Subtle Introduction to Financial Machine Learning,” will explore how machine learning is transforming finance, covering foundational concepts, unique challenges of financial data, and its potential for risk management and quantitative analysis.Dr. Abduraimova holds a PhD and MSc from Imperial College London and has conducted research on systemic risk, financial contagion, and network-based risk. She has also been a visiting academic at the Bank of England, combining rigorous quantitative research with practical applications in financial stability and policy. The National Economics White Paper Forum

The National Economics White Paper Forum is the inaugural policy competition in Uzbekistan, designed to bring together 100 distinguished school and university students with a strong interest in economics, finance, and law. Hosted by the Young Economists Society of Uzbekistan at New Uzbekistan University, the forum provides a unique platform for students to engage in rigorous policy research and produce professional-level white papers that address real economic challenges facing the country.The vision of the forum is to cultivate a new generation of young economists who can meaningfully contribute to Uzbekistan’s economic development. By combining high-level research with practical policy application, the forum aims to bridge the gap between academic study and real-world economic decision-making. International & Local Economics Career Summit 2025

The Economics Career Summit 2025 brought together 60 of Uzbekistan’s top Economics students for a full day of expert talks, mentorship, and hands-on career development. The speaker lineup included leading professionals such as Dr. Obid Khakimov, Director of the Center for Economic Research & Reforms, who discussed Uzbekistan’s national economic strategy. Mukhammadaziz Adilov (KPMG Deal Advisory) shared internship-hunting insights, Sukhrob Murodov(Deloitte) spoke about starting a career in the Big 4, and Abdurashid Abdusalomov provided guidance on graduate admissions for top Economics programs, including UChicago.The program featured a group case challenge on youth employment policy reform, personalized internship and graduate-school roadmaps, and career simulations with rotating mentorship.Participants described the event as professional, global, and highly motivating, comparing it to world-class corporate campus days. Mathematics for Economics: Summer Intensive

New Uzbekistan University hosted the “Mathematics for Economics: Summer Intensive” from May 26 to June 13. The program offered students a comprehensive opportunity to deepen their understanding of calculus, linear algebra, optimization, and statistics, all tailored specifically for practical applications in economics and finance. Participants engaged in hands-on labs, financial modeling exercises in Excel, and real-world case studies analyzing Uzbekistan’s economy. The course was led by top international faculty and guest speakers, providing expert guidance and insights into modern economic analysis. Designed for students with basic knowledge of calculus and linear algebra, the intensive equipped attendees with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to tackle complex economic problems.

New Uzbekistan University hosted a YESU Insight Series event titled “Successful Careers in Economics.” The session featured experts Sergei Rivkin, Deputy Chief Risk Officer at Uzum; Obid Khakimov, Director of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms; and Rasim Mutlu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at New Uzbekistan University. They discussed how economists use theory and data analysis to tackle real-world issues such as market shifts, inequality, and policy impacts. Participants explored career paths in finance, consulting, public policy, and innovation, and were introduced to the new Master’s Program in Economics and Data Science at the university. The event took place on May 7 at U.C.A., 2nd floor, and was conducted in English.

How Research Helps Create the Right Products in FinTech.” During the session, participants learned about the difference between needs, demands, and desires, how research identifies and implements needs effectively, when research is unnecessary, types of research and tools, common mistakes made by junior specialists, and explored practical case studies.
