YESU Friday Talks · Episode 14 From Rules to Reality: How Modern Monetary Policy Took Shape

What happens when economic rules replace discretion and the framework that shaped modern central banking begins to face its limits?

Qilichbek Davronov is a Master’s student in Economics at the University of Sydney and an EYUF Scholar. He is also a former Trainee at the Central Bank of Uzbekistan. His study interests span macroeconomic finance, fiscal policy, and monetary policy.

On Friday, he’ll trace the rise, dominance, and reckoning of the framework that shaped modern central banking:

→ Why “rules” beat “discretion” and how a 1977 paper reshaped monetary policy
→ How inflation targeting became the global standard for central banks
→ What DSGE models actually assume about how people behave and why it matters
→ How the 2008 financial crisis exposed blind spots in mainstream macroeconomics
→ What central banks have changed and what they haven’t since

Join us if you’re interested in monetary policy, macroeconomic theory, central banking, or how economic ideas shape real-world policy.
